Honey Cake, by Joan Stuchner, published by Tradewind Books and designed by Elisa Gutierrez, won the Chocolate Lily Award . It is a BC children's choice award. Last night I was working hard on Fred and Pete, which is due today, so couldn't attend the gala at Kidsbooks Broadway. But Tradewind art Director, Carol Frank, phoned to tell me the news and congratulate me. Joan and I were both gobsmacked, but Joan not so much. She's an actor who has long dreamed of accepting an Oscar, so she had her acceptance speech all written out just in case. Honey Cake is turning into the little book that could with the rights sold to Random House as well. I went to Copenhagen to research and did a lot of other research for the WWII setting of the 40 pencil illustrations.
